The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. General Responsibilities

Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the Educational College Counselor to provide support and educational guidance to our general student population.

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities designated below are primary to the educational college counselor role. Some of the listed professional responsibilities are examples of activities, which are part of the unique role of each educational college counselor and are reflective of their individual expertise and interests.

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability

In addition to the above, the individual will
  • Provide Counseling services to students including: Academic Counseling, Career Counseling, Ed Plan Development, and coordination with other counseling services.
  • Provide academic advising and counseling services to our International student population and other populations identified in our Student Equity plan.
  • Assist students in clarifying academic/career goals and developing educational plans.
  • Assist in developing programs and services that will attract and retain a diversified student population.
  • Provide general orientation and group advising to students on campus and at outreach sites via courses, workshops, interactive teleconferencing, and/or e-mail.
  • Serve on committees, participate in faculty governance, and student activities.


Experience/Education

Master's degree in counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, edu­cation counseling, rehabilitation counseling, social work, career development, OR the equivalent, OR possession of a California Community College counselor credential.
