Department Statement:
The Assistant Director of Career Exploration Programming works closely with the Career Advising team and the Senior Associate Director of Career Services to design programs that help students gain perspective on career areas of interest. Tapping into Colgates uniquely dedicated alumni and parent network, the Assistant Director will recruit volunteers to share their career experiences and expertise with current students. Career Services programs are designed to support the success of all students, regardless of past experience, identity, or financial resources.

The Assistant Director of Career Exploration Programming oversees planning and logistics for on-site and virtual events including career panels, workshops, immersion trips, and job shadowing events. Additionally, the Assistant Director is responsible to orient volunteers to their role and assists the career advisers with preparing students to interact with alumni and parent volunteers.

In addition to working with the Career Services team, the Assistant Director partners closely with fundraising and alumni relations colleagues to keep accurate records and ensure volunteers are appreciated for their service to students. The ideal candidate maintains relationships across a variety of stakeholders by displaying tact and political savviness in settings with key influencers.

Accountabilities:
Under the supervision of the Senior Associate Director and aligned with Career Services strategic plan, accountable to operationalize and implement alumni and parent-driven career exploration initiatives. Role focused on partnering with alumni and parent volunteers to create, grow, and manage large-scale initiatives (e.g.: A Day in the Life, SophoMORE Connections, Career Exploration Week) and industry-specific programmatic offerings for the benefit of students' career development and success.

Accountable for increasing the number and satisfaction of volunteers engaged in Career Services' efforts. Responsible for sustained, longitudinal volunteerism across multiple identities of alumni and parents (i.e.: highly-influential, representing marginalized populations, <10 years post-graduation). Ensures accurate and timely capture of volunteer feedback. Accountable to maintain productive relationships with existing volunteers to sustain, broaden, and/or deepen their engagement with Career Services. Responsible for partnering with Advancement (fundraising and alumni relations) and faculty colleagues to steward volunteers. Accountable for tracking and reporting on volunteer initiatives.

Accountable for identifying unique groups of students - by interest area or demographics - to engage in initiatives catalyzed by the Colgate Professional Networks or other alumni groups.

May co-supervise one or more student interns.

Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • Must have two years of relevant experience including demonstrated project and event management experience, and data assessment experience.
  • Must have solid judgement, and the ability to manage projects independently.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills; strong organizational and analytical skills, and the ability to set priorities and take initiative.
  • Must demonstrate an aptitude for building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously with an appropriate sense of urgency and follow-through.
  • Must have demonstrated abilities to synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Must be able to articulate a passion for the advantages of a liberal arts degree and market the university to potential new employers.
  • Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of parents, alumni, employers, faculty, staff and students within a university context.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior student affairs and/or student advising, career services, or recruitment experience is preferred.
  • Prior volunteer or student supervision is preferred.
  • CRM technology experience is a plus.


Education
Must have a minimum of a Bachelors degree.

Masters degree preferred.
