Adjunct instructor needed to teach English Writing II at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution (MCI) - Concord, a medium security men's prison in Concord, MA.
The course is part of the Tufts University Prison Initiative (TUPIT), a college degree program run in partnership by Tufts University, Bunker Hill Community College and the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
The course is taught inside MCI-Concord with permission from the Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC). The population of approximately 20 students are all currently incarcerated adult learners. The class will run Friday 1:00 - 3:45pm. Faculty members must be at the prison by 12:15pm to go through prison security.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in English, Literacy, Composition/Rhetoric, Writing, or Teaching of Writing required for teaching English courses; master's degree or doctorate in a related field with core coursework in English will be considered if graduate transcript(s) are submitted with application
- Proven ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population
- Teaching experience required; community college teaching experience preferred
- Prior training and/or experience working with prison education programs preferred
- The applicant will need to complete a training program to teach TUPIT courses.
- Faculty who teach with TUPIT must submit paperwork to gain volunteer approval from the Massachusetts Department of Correction (DOC).
Additional Information:
Salary: $1,132 per credit hour
Effective Date: Fall 2022 semester, open until filled
