The College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at Northern Arizona University seeks an Assistant Dean for directing operations and activities of Northern Arizona University graduate programs housed at the Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC) in Downtown Phoenix. Reporting to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services located in Flagstaff, the Assistant Dean will provide local management and oversight of campus operations including working with PBC department chairs, facilitating interprofessional educational opportunities, and developing and maintaining collaborations with community entities and with partner university leadership at this shared campus. Graduate programs at the CHHS Northern Arizona University Phoenix Biomedical Campus currently include Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies and Physical Therapy.

The position is based in the state-of-the-art Phoenix Biomedical Campus (PBC) in downtown Phoenix, AZ, shared by health science educational programs from both the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University.

Travel to the NAU Flagstaff campus and/or sites across the state is expected on an occasional basis.

The position start date is flexible between the selection date and July 1, 2022.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate or Full Clinical Professor(Clinical Track):

  • Administrative leadership experience for an academic department within a university setting

  • Experience working in a collaborative multi-disciplinary environment

  • Earned Doctoral degree in a discipline withinthe College of Health and Human Servicesor related discipline by time of hire

  • Prior appointment at an academic institution at a rank equivalent to or exceeding that of associate professor, professor, associate clinical professor or clinical professor


Associate or Full Professor(Tenure eligible): All of the above qualificationsAND

  • Prior appointment at an academic institution at a rank equivalent to or exceeding that of associate professor or professor (with Tenure)

  • Record of scholarship including external grant funding and scholarly publications that, as judged by unit criteria and provost official review, meets or exceeds NAU criteria for promotion and tenure

Annual Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Additional Information:

While serving as Assistant Dean, the position is a 12-month appointment. The administrative assignment may be renewed after three years upon successful annual performance reviews. The primary faculty position may be a 9-month academic year position or a 12-month FY appointment depending on the home department assignment. Depending upon the credentials and experience of the selected finalist, this position may be non-tenure track or tenured in accordance with the College of Health and Human Services' tenure qualifications. Incoming rank and tenure status will be reviewed and proposed by the unit and the college (faculty status committees, school and college leadership) with final approval from the provost.
