About the Position:
The Career Center is a lead University and Student Affairs resource to help students and alumni achieve success in developing and implementing career plans. The center partners with students, faculty, alumni, employers, academic programs and graduate schools to build bridges between our distinctive academic programs and diverse professional opportunities in the larger community. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the College Career Specialist, Communications (Student Services Professional III-Range A). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Career Center is responsible for servicing 41,000+ students and alumni and has grown in its efforts in order to meet the strategic plan goals in relation to providing career readiness opportunities for students and increasing job and internships. The responsibilities aligned with this position are directly related to University strategic goals. More specifically, goal one, commitment to transformational Titan Experience with the objective to enhance the Model of the Titan Experience, including student participation in events, student pride and connection to the University; Strategy 7, increase existing outreach with community partners and alumni to connect faculty, students and staff and Strategy 8: Increase on-campus student employment, internships, and professional development opportunities. This position is critical in providing career development advisement, creation of connections to employers, development of job and internship opportunities, creating and delivering relevant programming, and serving as an active member of the Student Success Team for over 3,000 students in the College of Communications. This position will be funded through Student Success Initiative which provides enhanced post-graduation success through increased student support. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution plus three years of professional student services work in the field. A masters degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work or a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. A doctoral degree from an accredited college or university and the appropriate internship or clinical training in a relevant field may be substituted for three years of the required professional experience.

Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree from an accredited college or university in counseling, management, education, human resources, content area related to assignment, or related area. Individual and group counseling skills applicable to college students. General familiarity with job search techniques, such as creative job search strategies, interviewing skills, and resume/cover letter preparation. General familiarity with the graduate and professional school preparation process. Knowledge of methods and techniques to facilitate student outreach activities. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
